Children love to dig holes at the beach. Holes in the sand tend to fill back in very quickly. Children should be watched to make sure they do not get into holes that are deeper than their knees. Any deeper than that can be dangerous. One of the joys of going to the beach is going barefoot in the sand. Have your children wear protective beach shoes in areas that you haven’t inspected for broken glass and other hazards. Children need to have sunblock applied at intervals throughout the day. It’s best to apply it yourself so that they don’t miss a spot and get a bad burn. Even if a child spends a great deal of time in the water they still need to make sure to stay hydrated in the sun. Make sure you give them plenty of water to drink throughout the day. When you set up your spot for the day make sure that you and your children pick out a landmark that can be seen from a distance. Make that the spot to meet if you become separated. A lifeguard tower is a great option if one is close. Cover your car seats with towels so the sand doesn't get on your car seats. Sprinkle baby powder on wet skin to help get rid of the sand when toweling off. Rinse off suits before washing them. This keeps the sand from getting into your machine. Same with towels, rinse them and then shake them out to get the sand out before putting them in the machine.
