American Inland Beaches - Visit a Lake or River Beach

New Hampshire Inland Beaches

Lake Winnipesaukee - NH

Covering 72 square miles this is the largest lake in the New Hampshire Lakes region but only one of several beautiful lakes. Be sure to also visit Big Squam lake, Little Squam lake and White Oak Pond. You may remember this pond as the location where "on Golden Pond" was filmed.

Although these lakes offer wonderful winter sports including ice fishing and cross-country skiing, they are definitely a treat in the summertime for the inland beach lover.

One of the major towns in the region is Wolfeboro, on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee. The town, which claims in its motto to be “the Oldest Summer Resort in America,” is rustic and homey, and is a popular summer destination for families with children.

The Lake Winnipesaukee Travel Guide will help you find all of the hidden treasures in the lakes region of New Hampshire. Find the best places to go boating, skiing, fun activities for the kids, day trips, berry and apple picking, shopping, best restaurants, great places to stay and more.

Illinois Beach State Park - Zion, IL

If you are interested in a quiet walk along some of the Midwest's most scenic beaches, this is the place for you!

Stretching leisurely for six and a half miles along the sandy shore of Lake Michigan in northern Illinois, Illinois Beach State Park encompasses the only remaining beach ridge shoreline left in the state.

Illinois Beach is a unique and captivating natural resource for all to enjoy. It was created by the titanic forces of glacial advance and retreat and the steady winds that breathed across expansive Lake Michigan. The park has dunes and swales with sprawling marshes, forests of oak and vast arrays of animal life and vegetation.

The 4,160-acre park, consisting of two separate areas, offers ample opportunities for swimming, boating, picnicking, hiking, fishing, camping and just appreciating nature. There are both reserved and first come, first served camping areas. This wonderful park gets busy so book your spot early.
