Haulover Beach: A Nude Vacation in Florida
Haulover Beach Park is located in Southern Florida (Miami-Dade county). Since 1991 it has been a designated clothing-optional park that opens when the sun comes up and closes at dark. Amenities There is parking at this beach ($5.00 per car - very reasonable compared to some). There are showers on site, places to get refreshments, bathroom facilities, and chair and umbrella rentals so you don't have to bring the whole back yard with you. Those of you with pets - please leave them at home along with any glass containers. This request is for everyone’s safety. For disabled visitors, the beach is somewhat wheelchair accessible and suitable wheelchairs for sand are on site. Maneuvering assistance is available to those in need. General description Haulover beach is part of Haulover Park, a very peaceful location that includes a golf course. The beach here is covered with clean white sand and surrounded by places to enjoy a picnic. The area prides itself on keeping everything looking pristine. The water is lovely for both surfing and swimming, and there's a full-service restaurant in the park proper. History Haulover Beach was named after Baker Haulover, a Florida resident who loved to travel from Biscayne Bay to Haulover. The "clothing optional” aspect begins in 1991 when South Florida Free Beaches, a naturalist organization, started seeing the interest in nude beaches on the rise throughout the state.
While there was some struggle to get the beach established, and periodic objections arise, this beach has become a huge hit locally and a strong tourist attraction that brings visitors and money into the region. The beach is carefully observed, and no untoward behavior is allowed. As with many other nude beach facilities, you can come and choose to wear clothing if you wish. For individuals wanting something more family-friendly, the Southern part of Haulover is partitioned off from the rest of the sands so that the clothing optional beach cannot be seen. In this part of the beachfront, clothing is required. When to Visit The most popular month at Haulover beach, by far, is July, during the celebrations for National Nude Week. During this period you'll find live concerts, parades, and numerous other enjoyable activities (with or without clothing). Be forewarned, however, that if you don't like crowds, these events can draw as many as 10,000 people daily! That means getting your reservations for hotel and any shows in at least six months ahead of time (more if you want a bargain). Side Trip! While you’re in the Miami region you may want to step away from Haulover Beach (particularly if it rains) and see the Bayside Market on Biscayne Blvd. This is a HUGE mall that kicks things up a notch with exotic restaurants and daily live entertainment. While it’s not sun and surf, it’s a great alternative with plenty of brand name stores to please discriminating shoppers. Whether you need a sunhat, some lotion or even a lush cigar, you’ll find what you want at a price that’s comfortable on your wallet.
