Top Family Beaches in America

If you are planning a family vacation at a beach, consider one of these popular family beaches.

Daytona Beach - Florida

Not only does Daytona Beach have 23 miles of sparkling Florida sand, but it’s close to a variety of other family friendly destinations. Family trips to Daytona can also include a visit to the NASA Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral and the Daytona Motor Speedway. Of course any trip to Florida could include a trip to visit the Disney resorts in Orlando.

Coronado - California

Coronado is just a short drive across the Coronado Bridge from downtown San Diego. The year round beautiful weather in San Diego makes this a great spot at any time of the year. The Hotel del Coronado is a spectacular old hotel and has great activities for children who are guests. Coronado is a great spot to build sand castles, fly a kit, surf or boogie board.

Hilton Head Island – South Carolina

Hilton Head Island can be recognized by its famous red and white striped lighthouse. The 14 miles of beach have shallow waters with gentle, child friendly waves. This is also a premier spot for dolphin watching.

Newport Beach - California

Newport Beach is a great spot for an active beach experience or spending time in a more leisurely activity of sunbathing. Surfing is magnificent and the “Wedge” generates 25 foot waves that are best attempted by very experienced surfers. The miles and miles of beach have great sand for building sand castles. When your family is ready for a snack and shopping, head for the busy Boardwalk.

Cannon Beach - Oregon

Cannon Beach is just 80 miles west of Portland, Oregon in a spectacular setting with old growth forests and huge rock formations. Haystack Rock is is well over 200 feet high and is a well known landmark of this beach. As is common with beaches in the Northwest the temperature of the water is suitable for only the hardiest swimmer. Luckily the beach is magnificent for building sandcastles and flying kites.

Poipu Beach Park - Hawaii

If your family is lucky enough to be able to make a trip to Hawaii, make sure to visit Poipu Beach Park on Kauai’s sunny south shore. Not only is the Pacific Ocean amazingly crystal clear but the beach ranges from calm and shallow to suitable for surfing near the reef. The beach is monitored by lifeguards and restrooms, picnic tables and showers are close by. The beach is also a prime location for close encounters with turtles and dolphins.

There are many more great family beaches throughout the world. If you're looking for a first visit to the beach for your family, you can't go wrong with any of the choices here.
