Beach Games Great Way to Spend the Day Under the Sun
Great Way to Spend the Day Under the Sun
For a fun day under the sun, beach games are what it’s all about! Running around on the sand, building sand castles, chasing the surf and having fun with family and friends. There are so many beach games that you can play that it’s hard to know where to start.
If you have little ones, the beach is a great place to teach as well as to play. Counting shells, while collecting is a great learning and teaching game, while you walk along the shore, or draw letters in the sand, even playing “sand piper”, chasing the waves up the sand can be fun. The water balloon toss is great fun and everyone can play. Divide everyone up into teams of two and give them each a balloon. Have them stand two feet apart and toss the balloon. Then have them take a step back and do it again, step back and toss. Each time a couple breaks their balloon, they are out of the game, until the last couple is left. Be sure to pick up the balloon bits, when you are done, though. Seagulls will eat almost anything. Beach volley ball is never a bad thing. Usually it’s bringing the net to the beach that’s a pain in the back and let’s not even mention the fact that the established volley ball courts are usually taken over by larger groups. Why not use a badminton net? It’s smaller, easier to set up and you can have just as much fun. You aren’t having a full on tournament, here, just some family fun. The penguin game is one of the most fun beach games, not only to play, but to watch! Divide everyone into two teams and give them a grapefruit. Place a bucket at one end of the “course”. The key is to carry the grapefruit, between the knees, in relay, from one team member to the next, the last member taking it to the bucket. The really good news is, once you are done playing this game, you can rinse and cool off in the water, provided anyone is still standing from laughing. Bringing a Frisbee to the beach is never, ever a bad thing. Using it to play golf is a whole other story! By creating your own “golf course” in the sand, try to get your Frisbee into the “hole” and win the game takes time and skill. Not to mention maybe having to fight off the local dogs who are trained to play Frisbee!
“Fill the bottle” is a fun beach game that can be played by anyone. Divide into two teams each with a narrow necked bottle to be filled. Arm each team with small cups. The trick is to fill the bottle. Place the bottle about twenty feet away from the starting point on an up turned basket or bucket, so that it is stable. Have each team fill their cup and run to fill the bottle, in relay. The winner is the team with the fuller bottle.
