Texas Beaches

When you think of the Lone Star State, Texas beaches probably aren't the first thing to come to mind. However, any visit to Texas would be wanting without getting at least a look at some of these fantastic shorelines. Texas is home to over 600 miles of sand and surf, and the Gulf of Mexico promises some warm water for your enjoyment.

Start your beach tour at Padre Island National Seashore (Corpus Christi). This area is great for families who want the convenience of being near a city, and the ambiance of a less-developed beach front. That's not to say you'll find nothing to do here! You can camp, fish, observe turtle rescue and release programs, or just enjoy the warm weather. There is a fee to enter the park, depending on how you arrive and how many are in your party. There are also some additional fees for various activities, so you may want to plan out your day's budget accordingly.

South Padre Island

If you like clean, beautiful beaches, this is not one to be missed. Bordered by the Gulf of Mexico, you'll feel like you're lounging in a tropical paradise with the white sand and pristine waters, making South Padre Island one of the most beautiful Texas beaches. Once the sun goes down you can enjoy some nightlife (that tends to be hopping), go shopping, or catch a fresh local meal.

Galveston Area Beaches

In writing about Texas beaches a whole article could be devoted to the Galveston area alone. The East beach is "party central" complete with live music and all manner of activities that attract a young crowd (or the young at heart). By comparison, Moody Gardens is a lot quieter, offering beautiful sand and impressive landscaping (complete with waterfalls).

Galveston

If you like ecological adventures, set off for Sand Castle Beach. For a wheelchair-accessible beach there's Sea Shell Beach (this one also has picnic tables and showers). And last but not least for the family - hit Stewart Beach and enjoy designing a sandcastle or playing volleyball.

Port Aransas - Mustang Island

Whooping Crane

Mustang Island offers a great deal in a beach destination. You can enjoy a variety of restaurants in Port Aransas along with some shopping then retreat from the world to the beach on the Island. If you are a nature lover, this place is the only one in the country where you can see the endangered whooping crane from close range.

Surfside beach

Surfside Beach

This beach is actually an island, meaning it comes complete with over 20 miles of sand (shouldn't be hard to find a perfect sunning spot!). One big attraction is the plentiful cabanas where you can just relax in comfort. There’s plenty of good fishing to be done here it is if your kind of thing, and photography lovers will discover that Surfside beach is a great spot for some great nature pictures, specially at sunsrise and sunset.

Play or Peacefulness

No matter what type of beach you enjoy, you'll find one of Texas beaches to your liking. Many offer water sports, some have beach houses and local eateries, go fishing, gather crabs, boat, take pictures and even camp out.

Other Coastal Attractions

While you’re in Texas you may want to take advantage of other coastal sights. Specifically you can visit the Texas State Aquarium (a MUST for marine animal lovers), the USS Lexington, Moody Gardens, the Seaport Museum, Sea Turtle Inc. (who save baby turtles and return them to their native environment) and the Port Isabella Lighthouse. These are just a few examples of the beauty of Texas beaches and coastline landmarks.
